The World Through My Eyes

Photographs by young Mozambicans.

Saria

Saria Alberto Lhunguane was born in a village called Muzumuia, in Chókwè district. She was born in a very poor family. Due to the war in Mozambique her parents took her to live in South Africa, as a baby. During the first months of her life, she was fed by cow milk, an unusual luxury for Mozambicans. She later returned with her family to Mozambique. Her father returned ill from South Africa and died in 2002. Saria has 15 siblings and is a twin. She is now 14 years old and studying at Mungone Primary School. She likes to play with friends and study Portuguese.

"I joined this project because it is for orphans and my father is dead. Before starting I didn't know about taking photos and had never touched a camera. Now, I am the only person in my family who can use a camera and I feel capable to use any camera. Even though I was sick and didn't have the opportunity to use manual cameras I enjoyed the project and hope to become a professional photographer one day."
